DJ Bazootka – Leather Coated Bitch

Written on 21.09.2020 by Jack Hunter

Leather Coated Bitch is the latest offering from the Balkans blitzkrieg brutalist DJ Bazootka – an inferno of collective entities; cross-weaving the stylizations of ghettotek, Detroit, Dutch punk techno and smoked out brain-danced inflections. This is all typical of what you can find from a DJ Bazootka experience – the sound, form and stubbornly fused textures which provide an immediate peek behind the curtain and semblance of true underground fixtures , mainly by breaking them down and rebuilding them with an emblematic sheath of its own (including nods to bass-line and even motifs of psychedelic trance peppered within the inner mechanisms of this 7-tracker). The presence of the whole release is grim and uncompromising. Violent and unabridged.

The release is split between two themes, aptly separated as Ghettofix and Brainfix. The former draws heavily from ghettotek leanings, complete with off-kilter breakbeats, raucous acid downpours and untamed BPM counts that embody the mileage of an old-school Alfa Romeo sports car. Brainfix deals its hand different, with a more fixed-gear focus on experimentation and raw meditations of the ethereal, psychedelic and deconstructed.

The myriad of styles captured on this release creates the perfect mosaic that gives you the complete transient experience opined by one person’s coalition of underground aesthetics, deviating from conventional structures found in many contemporaries attempting to emulate similar nodes of construction (or destruction).
The leather might be fake, but behind the mask is an unspeakable realism, casting us inside a void of brutality and introspection – one with the Midas touch.
